Dr. Madden has treated over 10,000 injured New Yorkers, and over 1,000 New York City firefighters. He is a board certified surgeon who served for over fifteen years as both the Clinical Director of the New York Hospital-Cornell Burn Center and the Director of Trauma at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The results of his research on wound healing and skin substitutes have been presented at national and international meetings, and he has contributed many articles to peer review journals and surgical textbooks on the care of injured patients.

In 1994, Mayor Giuliani and Fire Commissioner Howard Safir awarded him The Fire Department of New York's, Department Medal for his dedicated care of New York's Bravest. It was the first time a civilian had received such an honor since 1913. He was also the first recipient of the Fire Commissioner's Humanitarian Award, and, in addition, he was named an honorary Police Surgeon by the New York Police Department.

Dr. Madden took time off from his medical career in order to write. He has continued to pursue his new interest, and he's completing his second novel. Dr. Madden and his wife live in New York.
